Daisy is a sweet 11-year old Egyptian Arabian. She has kind, gentle eyes and a patient disposition and only wants to please all that ride and work with her. Mitey Riders has been gifted with her care from Trisha Dingle of Whitehaven Plantation, a premier breeding and training facility for Egyptian Arabians in SC. Daisy is quite new to the program, having only arrived in August. She spent her ‘first career’ as a competitive Endurance horse. You can find her grazing daily with all the other mares in pasture 5, across from the outside arena. Daisy is shown here with Zoe, dressed up as a hula girl for Halloween!
Lexi arrived at Misty Meadows over the Summer and is on lease to the Mitey Riders from Susan Rose Marcus. Lexi is a 20 yr old Thoroughbred/Trakhener cross mare. She is bay in color — brown body with a black mane and tail — and stands 16 hands tall. Before Lexi came to Mitey Riders, her owner competed her in Eventing and Fox Hunting. Currently, Lexi lives in Pasture 5 with Gracie, Daisy, and Casey. Sometimes she is hard to catch in the field, but once a child is on her back she is steady, professional and happy to be loved on. Her strong back is carrying a few of our riders who require special handlebars, and she is stellar in her job. We are happy to have her as one of our therapy horses.
SEPT 2010 – Gracie
Gracie is a beautiful 16-year-old Thoroughbred mare with a unique blaze marking on her face. She has a Chestnut coat and mane. She arrived at Misty Meadows in late April and bonded immediately with a couple of our riders — including Jessica S. and Michael M. She has a sweet disposition and kind eyes. We have been training her this summer for a full introduction into the program for 2010–2011. She showed us her patience this past October, agreeing to wear bunny ears for Halloween! Gracie lives in pasture 5 (across from the outdoor riding arena) with all our other mares.
Tux, a 9 year old large paint pony, has been living at Oak Hill farm. His background is in the hunter world. The Tarulli Family has graciously loaned Tux to Mitey Riders now that their daughter has outgrew him. Tux has already proved to us that he loves his new job. He is sweet and kind and has taken care of many of our Mitey Riders: Matthew S., Brian S., Roma L., & Katie H.
Case is a 14 yr old, 17.2hh Oldenburg gelding who spent his earlier years traveling the globe as an Open Show Jumper. Since arriving at Misty Meadows, Case has settled in well and become a favorite on the farm. He is a kind, sweet addition to our team of Mitey horses. Currently Case is partnered with Mitey Riders Tristan K., Adam F., and Brad L.. As he continues to learn and work in the program, we hope more riders will get the chance to learn from this great horse.
Snow Lilly is an 18-year-old Welsh Pony, given to us by the Oakley Family about 6 years ago. Emma and Ray Oakley still volunteer for us on occasion when they are not busy preparing or riding in their own horse shows. Snow Lilly gives our Mitey Riders the ability to learn a great deal because of her calm temperament and steady gaits. The Mitey Riders currently riding Snow Lilly are: Hailey G., Christopher W., Justin B., Meghan W. and Frannie C. When Snow Lilly is not working you can find her grazing in Pasture 2 with Chief and Sugar. *Photo shows Snow Lilly dressed up as the Mad Hatter for Halloween!
General is a Percheron by breed and is owned by Kari Smith who was training him in vaulting and dressage until she became pregnant with her first child. It was great timing for Mitey Riders, as we needed a large horse to ride some of our older kids. General truly is a “gentle giant,” and has made fast friends with Mitey Riders Nathan V., Bucky N., and Matt P. Everything about him is large, except for his attitude.
Red is a 14.2hh, 24-year old Welsh cross who came to Misty Meadows in 1998. He is a rich liver chestnut and has a beautiful white star on his forehead. Red has put many a smile on our Mitey Rider’s faces, over the years, and is often used for our more timid riders. His soft eyes and perky ears set our days ready to ride. His favorite treat is peanut butter crackers! He is one of our “Oldie Goldie’s” and hopefully will be with us for many years to come!
